The Network of Ugandan Researchers & Research Users (NURRU)
was established in 1994 by representatives of 25 Ugandan research
and research user organisations with support from the Government
of the Netherlands. NURRU, a registered NGO, brings together
researchers and research users to tackle some of Uganda’s
daunting socio-economic problems, through research and research
output utilization. NURRU conducts research for socio-economic
development aimed at poverty eradication in the country. Poverty
eradication and socio-economic development were, at NURRU’s
inception, identified as some of Uganda’s most daunting
problems that needed special attention.

and Action-Oriented Researh for Poverty Eradication and Sustainable
Socio-Economic Development.
Mission
To Promote Effective, Action-Oriented Research with Focus
on Poverty Eradication through Linking Researchers and Research
Users.
Objectives
NURRU’s objectives include the following:
- Provide research findings from demand led, participatory,
action oriented research to policy makers, member organizations,
individuals, NGOs, Business organizations and any other
person(s) interested in research use
- Identify through a participatory approach research agenda
on socio economic issues and support and manage those
selected research projects
- Build capacity of researchers and research users in the
country through training and mentoring
- Document research results and maintaining a network of
researchers and research users
- Provide services to member organizations so as to increase
their efficiency in order to generate and utilize research
results
- To provide research consultancy services to Government
agencies, NGOs, individuals, business organizations and
anybody who is interested in research
